The 1st round of Brazilian Onroad National championship was
held in Rio de Janeiro at “Rodeo Drive” track. This
year we will have 4 rounds in 3 different cities around the
country.
The race attendance was a little bit disappointing with only
28 drivers in 1:10 and 11 drivers in 1:8.
On Friday practice session Flavio Elias started to show his
authority in 1:8 class while at least 5 drivers were fighting
for the fastest laps in 1:10. At the end of the day, Flavio
Elias set the pace in 1:8 with his NovaCollari engine while
Eduardo Dias set the fastest lap time in 1:10 also powered by
a Novarossi engine.
We had only 4 rounds of qualifying due to a rainy morning on
Saturday, apart from that some 1:10 drivers got disqualified
due to a strange rule that said the bottom line of the bodies
must appear to be approved. Due to the lack of time some drivers
had to run with alternative bodies and therefore lost their
chances to be Top4.
In 1:10 it was Gabriel Brito who managed to make 18laps only,
Henrique Winik ran out of fuel but guaranteed the 2nd place
followed by Flavio Elias and Bernardo Kokemper.
Eduardo Dias and Marcos Mayer suffered with the body trimming
rule and just made their way to the semifinals, hopjng for better
luck on Sunday.

3 - Flavio Elias 17 5:01.140 - 17.417
4 - Bernardo Kokemper 17 5:05.563 - 17.683 - NOVAROSSI
In 1:8 Flavio Elias was the fastest driver in every qualifying.
The other drivers struggled with many problems and some were
dedicated to 1:10 so Flavio had no opponent during the qualifying
and he was the only one able to make 19 laps.
I also struggled with small details and on my 19 lap run I ran
out of fuel and lost the 2nd overall place.

After some heavy rain on Saturday night, no one knew how was
the track on Sunday morning for lower finals..
In the first semi Eduardo Dias was leading even with the 2nd
spur gear stripped but the huge and high speed track forced
him to retire with engine problems. Other drivers also got problems
and track was very allows at that moment so the 1st and 2nd
placed bumped to the final only.
The other 4 finalists came from the second semifinal with flawless
30min race and also thanks to the faster track.
In the main final we saw very different strategies with some
drivers trying to pull very hard and make a tire change, and
other drivers saving their tires for the whole 45min race.
The race was very close, until the middle of the final there
were about 5 drivers fighting for the win but with about 15
minutes to the finish Marcos Mayer put a large gap in front
of Ricardo Perez while other drivers had to change tires or
had other problems and lost their chances to win.
With a perfect refueling strategy and no mistakes at all, Marcos
crossed the finish line with 4 laps of advantage due to a flame
out of Ricardo Perez on the very last minute. Cristiano Carpinelli
was forced to change one tire with very few laps remaining and
lost the chance to complete the podium.

The 1:8 class had a direct final with 11 drivers.
The race wasn’t so brilliant due to a lot of accidents
and a big number of drivers having technical problems.
Flavio started on last spot due to a delay requested to repair
his car after an accident during the warmup, he just recovered
the lead on the first laps of the race and put a huge advantage
over the rest of the pack with a clean race with no mistakes
nor mechanical problems at all.

We are very happy to keep the great results we achieved last
year. Novarossi engines clearly dominated the 1:10 class and
just powered 100% of 1:8 cars!!
Thanks to Novarossi for supplying us with the most reliable
and powerfull engines available.
Next stop is the 1st round of NOVAROSSI / AARC Championship
which we expect to be a new reference in this hobby in Brazil
with a very important support of Novarossi.
Thanks again!
